The new name for Oxford & Leamington Facial Aesthetics
If you are seeking effective scar removal, we offer a specialist Scar Paring procedure for at our Oxford and Leamington Spa clinics.
Treatment is suitable for almost anyone; most skin types, men and women over the age of 18 with ‘depressed’, pitted (or what people sometimes refer to as ‘ice pick’ or ‘crater’) scars, for example, those resulting from acne or post-chicken pox scarring.
In the scar paring procedure, the hardened scar tissue fibre is effectively pared away beneath the scar using a needle, in order to encourage the formation of new soft and healthy non-scarred skin to take its place.
Scar paring is a targeted treatment, involving careful work on the scar tissue, meaning trauma to the surrounding area can be kept to a minimum.
While Scar Paring may be the best treatment for you, we have other options which might be appropriate and can be used in conjunction with this, including dermal filler products (such as Profhilo) to fill depressed scars and boost skin health. We will always asses and discuss options with you during a thorough consultation prior to any treatment.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch and book a consultation if you are concerned about scarring – it can be a very individual phenomenon and many questions can be answered face-to-face. If you have any initial queries we will do our best to help if you get in touch with us via phone or email.
If you have good healing mechanisms and the skin responds well to treatment, the old scar tissue will be replaced with new tissue over time and will therefore be permanently improved.
You may need more than one treatment session within a year or so to reduce scarring. This varies according to the scar and how your skin responds to treatment. We will give you an indication of time and treatment costs on consultation and will continually reassess as we see how your skin responds to the treatment.
This is likely to depend somewhat on where the scarring is and how you feel about it. You might expect some redness following the treatment and keeping the area clean and dry, for example, avoiding activities which dirty it or cause sweating in the area, could impact on some activities you might undertake. It is also important to use a high sun protection.
If you ever have any questions or concerns at all following any procedure please do not hesitate to contact us – we are always happy to assist and place great importance on your post-procedure care.
We will be able to give you any individually tailored aftercare advice needed in but it is important to pay careful attention to hygiene and treat the area with care, keeping it clean and dry to aid healing.
