As we get older, expression lines such as forehead lines and crow’s feet can make us look tired, angry or sad, when we really aren’t. Wrinkle-smoothing injections, or Botox® as it is commonly known, is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments for both men and women, to help temporarily smooth crow’s feet and forehead lines and give a fresher, more wide-awake look to the face. At Rosie Cooper Aesthetics in Leamington Spa, we specialise in Botox® treatments and ensure that we obtain effective, yet, natural-looking results for our patients.
Botox® is actually a brand name for a substance called Botulinum Toxin Type A; a neurotoxin that has been used in medicine for many years. In 2002, Botox® was licensed for use for frown lines and the upper face, to temporarily reduce wrinkles and offer a more youthful appearance. Botox® addresses ‘dynamic’ lines (those caused by expression) and helps to smooth these lines by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles which create movement. However, do not be alarmed, as Rosie Cooper has extensive experience as a Botox® specialist and is medically-qualified to administer this prescribed drug; you will still be able to form expressions and will not look fake or over-done, after your procedure.
They’re expression lines. Every time you frown, raise your eyebrows or smile, the muscles underneath fold the skin. When you’re younger, the skin springs back. Over time, as collagen and elasticity decline, those folds start to stay, first when you move your face, and later even when it’s relaxed. Sun exposure, smoking and genetics all play a part in how early they appear.
It depends on the type of line. Lines that only appear when you move your face can be treated with a prescription medicine that temporarily relaxes the muscles causing them, if Rosie finds it suitable for you at consultation. Lines that are deeper and visible at rest may benefit from dermal fillers. If your skin looks thin, dull or crepey, a skin booster such as Profhilo® can improve its overall quality. Many people benefit from a combination.
Yes. A good result softens lines without removing your expressions. Rosie’s aim is for you to look rested, not frozen, so she tailors the dose to your face and how much movement you’d like to keep. If you prefer a lighter, more natural result, tell her at consultation.
Most people find it quick and very tolerable. A very fine needle is used and the injections are shallow, so you’ll feel a few small scratches. There’s no need for numbing cream for most people, and the treatment itself takes only a few minutes.
No. You can go back to work or your day straight away. For the rest of the day, avoid lying down for four hours, rubbing or massaging the area, strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol. Makeup can usually be applied the next day.
Yes. Rosie offers a review appointment around two weeks after treatment to check how you’ve responded. This is when she can make any small adjustments and note what worked well for next time.
